PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Test Cell Engineer atSGS – ETC will act as the test cell lead for projects of moderate to highcomplexity in the testing and development of engines.   It is expected that the test engineer willexecute testing activities, complete test cell improvement tasks, lead testcell automation efforts, and present results/conclusions to the customer withminimal supervision. This positionwill require significant time spent in engine test cells.

Testing will be focused onheavy-duty engines, but may involve testing a broad range of engine types.Projects may include performance and emissions development, calibration, and/orvalidation and compliance testing. In many cases, test results may be used todemonstrate emissions conformity to state and federal agencies, and will beconducted in compliance with 40 CFR Part 1065 and other relevant regulations.

The test cell engineer isexpected to always act with integrity, strive for the highest in data quality,and fully support the certification/homologation process.

REPORTING LINE

•   Reports to the Managerof Engine Test and Development

  RESPONSIBILITIES

GeneralProfessional Responsibilities:

•        At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrityand Professional Conduct

•        High attention to detail and highlyprofessional appearance

•        Consistent exercise of independent judgment anddiscretion

•        Regular, consistent and punctual attendance

•        Ability to work nights, weekends, and variableschedule(s) as necessary

TechnicalResponsibilities:

•        Responsible forefficiently and accurately executing test procedures while concurrentlyreviewing testing results to ensure reliability of data. It isexpected that the test cell engineer will operate the test cell daily for asignificant portion of each day.

•        Work with technicians to conduct engine testsand maintain optimal test cell operation per company and customer requirements.

•        Provide engineering support to customers.  This typically includes data analysis,results interpretation, component troubleshooting, duty cycle generation andevaluation, ECU flashing, configuring ECU development tools, control systemcalibrations and development

•        Perform testing to achieve productcertification and confirm compliance for the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and California Air Resource Board (CARB) for powertrain emissions and OBD

•        Configure the test cell automation system fortesting, including channel set-up, calibration, programming of test

•        Diagnose and resolve engine and test cellequipment problems in a timely manner

•        Lead automation process of engine-relatedequipment

•        Insure combustion air, engine cooling, fueling,electrical, and emissions sampling subsystems are adequate for each project

•        Applies engineering principles and statisticalmethods routinely in project work

•        Responsible for advocating for the customer andstrive to ensure the engine laboratories are producing high-quality data, beingwell utilized to meet program goals

•        Update internal procedures and develop newprocedures as required

•        Lead development of new tools and advancedtesting approaches in areas of automation system development, control systemdevelopment, test procedure development, and optimization

•        Provide leadership to install, improve, andcommission advanced instruments/systems, partnering with other groups

•        Participate in building business opportunitieswith key customers by providing superior service and technical expertise

PROFILE

•   B.S.Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) or minimum two years’ relevantexperience with expertise in engine testing procedures and technology

•   Experiencewith analysis of emissions testing results strongly preferred

•   Outstandingcomputer skills and computer programming skills

•   Abilityto approach problems in a scientific mannerand complete tasks with minimal guidance

•   Desireto work in Aurora, CO area

•   Willingto travel up to 15% of the time
