Hartz has been in business for 90+ years, and the Entomologist position is based in Carlstadt, NJ.
The Entomologist is responsible for supervised biological in-vitro testing in the laboratory for new and improved Animal Health pet products. A focus will be accuracy in data collection and report writing. Product forms to be tested will be sprays, topical drops, powders, collars, and shampoos.
Primary responsibility is for the testing of dog and cat flea and tick control projects
In-house flea and tick mortality and repellency testing and in-house flea IGR testing
Participation in department meetings to convey testing status and timing
Meeting timelines for testing of product formulas
Ensuring testing format and techniques are precise and repeatable
Skills and Competencies
Experience in laboratory work to evaluate finished products
Excellent organizational skills in keeping lab notebooks and writing technical reports
Excellent communication skills to convey test results to product development chemists
Strong computer competency with emphasis on MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
A strong understanding of entomology
Adept at working with insects (fleas, ticks, and mosquitos)
Proper handling of pesticide products
Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices
Works independently with moderate guidance by manager
Professional Experience and Education
A Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Chemistry. A Master's Degree in Entomology is a plus.
