Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Chemistry, Laboratory Science or Environmental Studies or related field with experience in water analysis
  • Has a Pennsylvania Waste Water Operator license – C5
  • Prior experience with the environmental compliance regulations, specifically for a leachate treatment plant
  • Must have a thorough understanding of lab testing procedures and equipment, with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office suite projects and Google email
  • Past experience in a wastewater or chemical plant is desired

The job holder could be exposed to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold), burns, chemicals, dangerous machinery, dirt and dust, electrical hazardous, grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam and high levels of moisture, and other hazardous conditions.  This position requires the job holder to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, stand for long period of time, walk on uneven surfaces, regular bending, climb onto and exit a forklift in a safe manner, use of extension ladders on a daily basis, ability to work a 12 hour shift, ability to climb into and maneuver body in tight spaces.

Veolia Water Technologies Dayton is currently seeking a Laboratory Manager to work in the Morrisville Pennsylvania area.

This position is responsible for laboratory testing, documentation and validation as well as ensuring that all laboratory and sampling activities are carried out in accordance with the various environmental permits for the facility.  Specifically, this person will demonstrate excellence in their laboratory procedures, calibration of equipment and validation of results. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Input or register data in the appropriate document and/or software
  • Take action to validate any non-conforming result prior to notification of Waste Management personnel. 
  • Communicate accurately, describing the circumstances involved in a non-compliance test result
  • Take immediate action when a laboratory test result indicates non-compliance and communicate with the Plant Support Functional Manager and the Operations Manager explaining the non-compliance and explain the need for the operations team to take corrective action
  • Interpret the laboratory analytical results and communicate results in a manner that is understandable to Veolia’s operations personnel, leadership and WM staffing
  • Work with the Plant Support Functional Manager and the Operations Manager to develop a cohesive and repeatable waste water treatment process change that will enable the plant to quickly attain environmental compliance and maximize waste water throughput
  • Manage the inventory of the laboratory reagents and equipment and notify manager of ordering needs
  • Check the “use by” dates of the laboratory reagents and ensure “past due” products are properly disposed of
  • Stay up to date on the latest analytical methods for testing in a leachate processing plant
  • Provide suggestions for test methods that are not providing repeatable results after conducting research of the current test method and analytical options available
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the laboratory, composite sampler, sample refrigerator and the lab supply cabinet. 
  • Validate the outsourced compliance sampling results from Geochemical or other laboratory testing facility.
  • Ensure documentation of laboratory QA/QC to include equipment & instrument calibration, temperature, COC, SOP and procedure variances. 
  • Train operators on laboratory test procedures and test unit calibrations.
