PLANNING PRACTICE

DESCRIPTION
This Environmental Technical Manager will join a collaboration of experienced planners, engineers, landscape architects, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective planning.  The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve.  The Environmental Technical Manager will provide technical guidance to and supervision to a variety of environmental documents for Federal, State, and Local Government Clients, as well as Private Sector Clients.
 
The Environmental Technical Manager will have several activities on any given day which include:
 
  • Supervising project teams; coordinating with and contributing to Michael Baker's planning, highway, structural, traffic divisions;
  • Coordinating subconsultants' activities; and conducting/preparing public meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with policy, guidelines, and regulations in the preparation of comprehensive environmental documentation. This includes, but is not limited to: planning studies and Land Use Plans; NEPA documents (Environmental Impact Statements, Categorical Exclusion Evaluations, and Environmental Assessments); and
  • Public Involvement programs and implementation strategies, technical, environmental, and engineering studies such as feasibility studies, socioeconomic studies, cultural resource Consulting Party process, wetland delineations, farmland assessments, waste site evaluations, and threatened and endangered species studies and documentation.
 
 
 
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Four-year degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in environmental projects
  • Develop and drive the implementation of the strategic business development plans to expand the firm’s environmental/regulatory footprint. This will include developing and capturing new market opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.
  • Knowledge of environmental principals, best practices, & techniques
  • Lead and support environmental and cultural resource staff
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and determined with a strong ability to build relationships. Extensive experience with developing NEPA documentation for federal and state regulations
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare statistical reports on land use, physical, social & economic possibilities, and constraints 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A desire to produce first-class work products is essential;
  • A demonstrated personal commitment to accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Working knowledge of planning software programs, including Microsoft Office applications, Internet applications, and may include GIS mapping 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Ability to accommodate moderate travel.
