Experience in a hospital laboratory isdesired, but not necessary.
The Laboratory Assistant shall integrate currentscientific knowledge with technical competency, which relates to the LaboratoryDepartment.
The Laboratory Assistant shall participate inestablishing and following written policies and procedures for ordering,inventory allowances, monitoring inventory supply, maintenance program, and performingmaintenance programs.
She/he demonstrates knowledge, responsibility andparticipates in the implementation of all aspects of the Safety/ChemicalHygiene Plan, Infectious/Exposure control Plan, Electrical Safety, DisasterPlan, Code Blue Plan, Fire Plan, Computer Systems, Performance ImprovementActivities, and the Compliance Program.

The Phlebotomistwill be knowledgeable/competent in regards to age-related blood obtainmenttechniques, amounts of blood obtained, laboratory values, age-related abuse,and age-related communications; focusing on neonates, pediatrics, adolescents,adults, and geriatric populations.
Perform Front Desk tasks, phlebotomy collection andcustomer service relationships.
The Laboratory Assistant shall maintain an atmosphere ofprofessionalism.
Communicates technical and general information topeers, medical personnel and customers in a positive, courteous andprofessional manner.
Promotes a positive image in daily and professionalactivities.
Displays consideration to all customers and peers.

Job Description:
Under the direction of theLaboratory Director, Coordinators (shift dependent), the Laboratory Assistanthas primary responsibility for the efficient organization and effectiveness ofthe Laboratory Desk, Reception Area, and specimen procurement. The employee will provide servicesaddressing age-related techniques in specimen obtainment and care focusing onneonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. Thisinvolves greeting outpatients, answering the telephone, schedulingappointments, answering questions regarding the test procedures and timeelements, filing, comparing requests on the printer output with orders on theterminal display, interfacing between other hospitals, hospital departments,physicians, medical offices and reference laboratories, obtaining blood specimens,providing quality service, and performing general laboratory duties. This isthe public relations for the Laboratory; therefore, she/he should be neat inappearance and pleasant in personality.
