Qualifications:   Bachelor degree with one (1) year of experience; -OR- Associate degree with three (3) years of experience; -OR- five (5) years of experience.  Degree and experience must be related to position specifications as outlined in the job posting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a research setting
  • AALAS certification (e.g., ALAT, LAT, LATG)
  • Experience with husbandry practices and vivarium operations
  • Knowledge of regulations, accreditation, and oversite bodies (e.g., the Guide, Animal Welfare Act, PHS policy, AAALAC, USDA, IACUC)
  • Experience with Articulate Storyline E-Learning Software

Job Description:

The Office of Research Laboratory Animal Medical Services (LAMS) department is seeking to fill a Coordinator, Unit Operations position. This position will entail good organization skills as well as an outgoing and people oriented personality. The position will report to the Director of LAMS.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate processes for the assigned projects, training events, and service unit; make recommendations regarding the development of operating processes; continuously update and improve processes, ensure achievement of assigned goals/outcomes, identify problems and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Provide leadership by serving as a unit resource, consultant and liaison for administrators within designated units and customers to ensure conformity and compliance with operating procedures, university policies, collective bargaining agreements, state regulations, and federal laws.
  • Assist Director with analyzing and interpreting data and other related activities.
  • Review, evaluate, and implement project proposals, training programs and other projects; and monitor and evaluate progress.
  • Research, develop, edit and prepare documents and reports.
  • Training others (e.g., vivarium procedures, animal handling).
  • Develop SOPs and training materials.
  • Initial contact person for researchers, must have good customer service.
  • Manage all aspects and agendas for events, including coordinating speakers, visitors, and wet labs.
  • May provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (orient, train, mentor, evaluate); assess skills and identify shortfalls and develop training needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Unusual Working Conditions:   Subject to animal bites and diseases; exposure to animal waste, urine, feces, blood, dander (allergens), and odors; exposure to physical, chemical, and biological hazards (for example: carcinogens, radioactivity, acids, and cleaning agents); pushing of heavy carts
