Johnston-Willis Hospital performs more da Vinci® robotic surgeries than any other single facility in Central Virginia and is the first in Virginia to be designated as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) by the Surgical Review Corporation. Additional surgical specialties include:
 
Thoracic, colorectal, general gynecology, gynecological oncology, general surgery, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), urology, and urogynecology.
 
CENTRAL STERILE TECHNICIAN CHALLENGES AND TASKS:
 
*1. Receives, cleans, processes, assembles, and distributes medical supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments.
 
*2. Acquires, distributes, and charges all disposable supplies and patient rental equipment.
 
*3. Prepares, assembles, and packages all medical equipment and instruments for surgical services and other hospital departments, including the restocking of code and isolation carts using the exchange cart system.
 
*4. Sterilizes all reusable equipment, supplies, and instrumentation, and maintains and operates Central Sterile equipment.
 
*5. Handles, transports, and stores sterile equipment and pulls supplies and instruments for surgical cases using the case cart system.
 
  6. Helps direct the workflow in Central Sterile Supply, sets priorities, and meets deadlines for department.
