Skills:
  • Perform quality tests (Color, moisture, PV, FFA, RI, nickel, IV, soap, foam, phosphorous) on all oils and input data in a timely manner.

  • Run spectronic color

  • Run SFCs and melt point tests; GCs to establish purity percentage, fatty acid profiles and IV

  • Analyze oils for moisture by using Karl Fisher and distillation moisture apparatus.

  • Perform tasks using the ICP and HPLC.

  • Run mono and chemical iodine tests; chlorphyll, glycol and IV tests

  • Enter COAs into the system for bulk and packaging.

  • Document testing results into ITS

  • Communicate results to operators, supervisors.

  • Perform all tests needed on special blends for R&D

  • Enter data into VAI and excel.

  • Perform and document tests ran with the Perkin Elmer FTIR

  • Perform and document test ran with the ABB FTIR

Job Requirements

A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required, with a 2-4 year degree in biology, chemistry or other food science related field preferred.  Reasoning skills are used in almost all aspects of this job function. Using equations and understanding calculations as well as working in Microsoft Office Programs such as Excel, Word, and Access are also a required part of the job. This job is performed in a manufacturing facility that is not temperature controlled.  There are numerous stairs and no elevators.  Some laboratory work with toxic/hazardous chemicals is required. Protective safety equipment must be used as directed at all times. Daily expectations require long periods of standing, walking, and working on methodology and reports can require a significant amount of time at a computer station. Heavy lifting is required regularly (up to 50 lbs.) with regard to products, ingredients (up to 420 lbs. with mechanical assist), and supplies (varying weights). Some mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity is required to find the cause of and arrange for the repair of Equipment.

What will you do?

 

This position is from 7 pm to 7 am and will work 2 days on followed by 2 days off, 3 on, 3 off, etc.  Every other weekend.

 

The Laboratory Technician is involved with the successful daily operation of the plant and laboratory. This ensures the superior quality of our product and a safety first work environment. This requires collaboration and communication with plant managers, operators, supervisors, and quality control technicians. Work is documented thru entries onto sheets and books specified for each department. Lab employees shall set an example, by demonstrating a commitment to quality, and customer needs at all times.
