Required Qualifications:     Associate of Science or Associates of Applied Science Degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical or biological science or a Medical Laboratory Technology related degree.  Thorough knowledge of procedures, theory, and techniques employed in medical laboratories. Must be ASCP certified.    

Preferred Qualifications:  

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Performs laboratory procedures in the following areas of the laboratory – Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Urine Analysis and special chemistries / immunoassay.
  • Receives or obtains various specimens, runs quality controls, and runs laboratory procedures.
  • Sets up new calibration on tests as required, and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all tests performed and performing duties in accordance with established methods and techniques/recognized standards.
  • Adheres to all laboratory procedures and policies, including all Health and Safety, Infection Control, and Hazardous Waste policies and procedures.

  • Skill in appropriate documentation and records maintenance.

  • Ability to speak effectively before individuals and/or groups.

  • Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and ability to use both hands and tools to manipulate small and delicate parts.
  • Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required, should be able to transport approximately 0-50lbs

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood, body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and sharp objects potentially contaminated with blood borne pathogens or other infectious agents.

 Laboratory Technician

Job Title:                                Medical Laboratory Technician / Phelbotomist

Department:                        Lab

Overtime Status:                Non-Exempt

Schedule:                              Full-time

Position reports to:            Lab Supervisor

Location of position:           Wichita, KS

Position Summary:             Performs analysis requiring a complex network of steps and variables.  Work is organized, easy to follow and according to lab protocols.  Recognizes technical, instrumental or physical problems, identifies the cause and evaluates alternative solutions where no pre-set criteria are available.  Confirms and verifies laboratory results utilizing in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments.  Correlates and interprets data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results. Establishes and monitors quality assurance programs.  May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
